Traditional Façade – Contemporary Interior Design – Upper Montclair, NJ

Alteration and addition to a mid-century residence in Upper Montclair. The addition included a new family room, kitchen and finished basement area with an exercise room. The interior finishes of the residence were upgraded to a more transitional look within the traditional façade.

The success of the residence is in the marriage of the traditional exterior with the contemporary interior finishes, so the finished house remains in harmony with the architectural context of the street.

During the process we incorporated many green elements including:

  • formaldehyde free insulation,
  • high efficiency HVAC systems with NEST thermostats,
  • new Jeld-wen windows,
  • bamboo decking,
  • no VOC/water based floor stain and
  • no VOC paint throughout the residence.

The residence was also pre-wired and plumbed for a natural gas house generator.
